Swiss Pear Schnapps
The Swiss variety of pear used in this schnapps was once so prolific in Lucerne that the fruits became known as Lucerne pears (although they called them Zug pears in Zug). The pears need to be just right for mashing, when they are starting to turn brown and soft from the inside out.
Now that this type of pear is nowhere near as common, it’s something of a speciality.
The schnapps we make using these pears is extra mild and fruity.
Mix the pear schnapps with a hot, weak coffee to make a traditional Kaffee Luz.
